เป็นเทอร์โมพลาสติกที่มีการใช้งานอย่างกว้างขวาง มีคุณสมบัติที่สำคัญคือ เมื่อติดไฟจะดับได้ด้วยตัวเอง ทนต่อน้ำ น้ำมัน ด่าง แอลกอฮอล์ และสารเคมีต่างๆ ยกเว้นคลอรีน ทนต่อการขัดถู เป็นฉนวนไฟฟ้าที่ดี และเนื่องจาก PVC มีคุณสมบัติ แข็งแต่เปราะและสลายตัวได้ง่ายเมื่อสัมผัสกับความร้อนและแสงแดด จึงมักนำ PVC ไปทำ Compounding ก่อน โดยเติมสารเติมแต่งต่างๆ เช่น stabilizer , plasticizer เป็นต้น
